Reduce Image Size in KB

Last updated

Quick Answer

Reduce image file size in kilobytes by setting custom maximum or bounded target ceilings directly in your browser. The client-side engine uses binary search over HTML5 Canvas quality and pixel dimensions to shrink JPEG, PNG, or WebP files quickly. Your confidential documents, IDs, and photographs are processed locally with zero uploads.

Reduce image file size to exact kilobyte targets or ranges in your browser. Select common presets—such as 10 KB, 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, or 200 KB—or enter custom bounds for exam registrations, bank forms, and web optimization.

How Do I Reduce Image Size to a Custom Kilobyte Limit?

  1. Upload any JPG, PNG, or WebP image into the tool.
  2. Select a target preset (such as Under 20 KB, Under 50 KB, or 20–50 KB) or enter custom KB bounds.
  3. Optionally tick “Set exact pixel dimensions” to enforce specific pixel width and height.
  4. Choose your output format (JPEG is recommended for government and exam portals).
  5. Click Compress to Exact Target to run the local binary search compression engine.
  6. Review the output stats card and click Download Compressed Image to save your file.

Dedicated Size Tools for Every Application Requirement

Depending on your specific application instructions, use our specialized tools tailored for exact portal limits: - Under 10 KB: Compress Image to 10KB, for forms with a very small limit - Under 20 KB: Compress Image to 20KB, for signature limits - 10 KB to 20 KB Range: Use Resize Signature to 10KB–20KB to satisfy strict dual boundaries - Under 30 KB: Compress Image to 30KB, for forms that state a 30 KB limit - Under 50 KB: Compress Image to 50KB, for photo limits - 20 KB to 50 KB Range: Compress Photo to 20KB–50KB, for photo ranges such as IBPS - Under 100 KB: Use Compress Image to 100KB for handwritten declarations and high-resolution portraits - Under 200 KB: Compress Image to 200KB, for certificate scans and UPSC photos (20–200 KB) - Transparent PNGs: Use Compress PNG to 50KB or Compress PNG to 100KB to shrink graphics with transparency - Passport-size photos: Resize Image to Passport Size, for a 3.5 × 4.5 cm photo at 350 × 450 px

How Our Browser Engine Guarantees Exact File Sizes

Standard web compression tools estimate compression ratios and frequently miss exact targets by several kilobytes. Our engine operates differently: - Client-Side Privacy: Processing happens 100% inside your browser using HTML5 Canvas; documents never upload to remote servers - Hard Ceiling Enforcement: Targets are calculated as max KB × 1000 bytes, ensuring files satisfy both 1000-byte and 1024-byte validators - Dimension-First Scaling: Canvas dimensions downscale before JPEG quality drops, keeping text and facial contours sharp - EXIF Auto-Orientation: Corrects camera orientation so portrait photos never appear rotated on forms

Frequently asked questions

Why do different exam portals require different image sizes?

Each authority configures database and print rules independently. Banking exams require compact photos (20–50 KB) for admit cards, while UPSC allows up to 200 KB. Always check your specific notification.

Can this tool reduce images on mobile phones?

Yes. The tool runs directly inside modern mobile browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). You can take a photo with your smartphone camera and compress it to the exact required size immediately.

What is the difference between reducing dimensions and compressing file size?

Reducing dimensions changes the pixel count (e.g., from 4000 × 3000 px to 200 × 230 px). Compression optimizes JPEG color data and quantization to reduce file weight in kilobytes. Our tool coordinates both automatically.

Will my JPEG be uploaded to a server?

No. The image is compressed inside your browser using JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas, so it never leaves your device. That makes it safe for ID proofs, signatures, certificates and other personal documents.

What if my image is still above 50 KB?

Very large or highly detailed images may need smaller dimensions to fit under 50 KB. The tool automatically downscales dimensions while keeping JPEG quality crisp. You can also switch output format to WebP, which produces smaller files at high visual quality.
