Compress Photo to 20KB–50KB

Last updated

Quick Answer

Application portals commonly enforce photograph sizes strictly between 20KB and 50KB. Our client-side image tool calibrates compression quality and resolution to land within 20,000 to 50,000 bytes, with optional preset dimensions (such as 200×230 pixels) you can pick. The entire optimization occurs in browser memory without external server transmissions.

Compress your candidate photograph to strictly between 20 KB and 50 KB. Matches the 20–50 KB photo rule in the IBPS PO/MT-XVI notification and fits inside UPSC’s 20–200 KB photo range.

How Do I Compress a Photograph Between 20KB and 50KB?

  1. Upload your candidate passport-style photo into the tool.
  2. Ensure Between (Min–Max) KB mode is selected with the 20–50 KB preset active.
  3. Optionally tick “Set exact pixel dimensions” to enter required dimensions (such as 200 × 230 px for IBPS).
  4. Verify output format is set to JPEG for universal exam portal acceptance.
  5. Click Compress to Exact Target to process the photo.
  6. Review the result card confirming the file size is between 20,480 and 50,000 bytes, then click Download Compressed Image.

Why Portals Demand Both a Minimum (20 KB) and Maximum (50 KB)

IBPS asks for a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB, and many other application forms use the same range.

Both limits matter: - Above the maximum, the upload is refused - Below the minimum, it can be refused too, because a very small file usually means a tiny or heavily compressed face

The Between mode aims for at least 20 × 1024 = 20,480 bytes and at most 50 × 1000 = 50,000 bytes, so the file is inside the range however the portal counts a kilobyte.

Essential Photo Rules for Error-Free Applications

To prevent photo rejection during application scrutiny: - Background: Stand against a smooth white or off-white wall without shadows - Lighting: Use balanced daylight; avoid harsh shadows across the nose or beneath the chin - Posture: Look straight into the camera lens with a neutral facial expression - Spectacles: Remove tinted glasses or heavy frames. Clear lenses must have no flash glare - Recency: Use a recent photo; IBPS asks for a recent passport-style colour picture

Frequently asked questions

Why did IBPS reject my photo when it was 19.8 KB?

The IBPS notification asks for 20–50 KB, so 19.8 KB is below the minimum. The 20–50 KB mode targets at least 20,480 bytes; if your photo is too small to reach that, the tool says so instead of padding the file.

What are the standard pixel dimensions for a 20–50 KB photo?

IBPS prefers 200 × 230 pixels. UPSC does not state a pixel size but requires the face to cover at least 75% of the photo. Tick “Set exact pixel dimensions” in the tool to fix a size such as 200 × 230 px.

Can I convert a selfie into a 20–50 KB passport photo?

Yes, provided the selfie has a plain white background, even lighting, both ears visible, and no camera tilt. Crop the image to passport proportions first, then compress using this tool.

Will my JPEG be uploaded to a server?

No. The image is compressed inside your browser using JavaScript and HTML5 Canvas, so it never leaves your device. That makes it safe for ID proofs, signatures, certificates and other personal documents.

What if my image is still above 50 KB?

Very large or highly detailed images may need smaller dimensions to fit under 50 KB. The tool automatically downscales dimensions while keeping JPEG quality crisp. You can also switch output format to WebP, which produces smaller files at high visual quality.
